People ask me where I get the fabric from to make the heat packs? 

This is always my favourite question, as this was why I started Mr Fred 10 years ago. Back in the day my mum was a lingerie designer in the late 60s and early 70s. She was always on the hunt for beautiful laces, trims, ribbons and fabrics to bring her designs alive. 

My passion for sewing and finding different fabrics that weren't mainstream stemmed from my mum. I was sewing Vogue patterns from the age of 11 with my cousin. It was one thing choosing the pattern and an entirely different thing choosing the fabric. The fabric chosen made the outfit go from average to amazing. 

This is what I was interested in from the conception of Mr Fred. Yes, heat packs can be boring, however for a person that experiences all levels of pain, from period pain, endometriosis or a sports injury.. you are looking at the heat pack for a very long time and using it often. To look at a heat pack thats uninspiring and boring was definitely not my vibe.

I want the same experience for every one of my customers. When you reach for one of our heat packs, you’re not just holding a bag of lupini or wheat for pain relief or comfort, you’re holding a piece of fabric that has had a previous story.. that once graced the a fashion house.

The fabrics we use for our heat packs are no ordinary textiles. Instead of choosing mass produced, generic fabrics, we source material that comes from Australian designers. These are the high quality, often exclusive fabrics left over after garments are cut and have their end of run. Textiles that would typically be destined for landfill.

Every metre of fabric we use is hand selected for both its aesthetic and its story. By repurposing designer remnants, we give these luxurious materials a second life, one with purpose, comfort, and sustainability in mind. What could have been waste becomes wellness.
